Meet the Malone Mailbox by Post and Porch

Isn't she gorgeous in person? I love the timeless, yet modern look of the Malone Mailbox. I chose the Large Malone Post-Mounted Mailbox in brown with brass numbers. It also comes in black, grey, white, and a natural patina that I love.

5 Features of the Malone Mailbox by Post and Porch

1. Built to Last

  • Material: 14-gauge powder-coated steel
  • Style: Timeless, modern.

If there's one thing I hate it's wasting time and money and needing to make the same purchase again down the road. I took my time with this purchase to learn what I needed to consider when buying a mailbox and to find the best option.

I am confident this mailbox is the last mailbox I will ever need to buy.

Why this is important

  • Materials matter. The 14-gauge steel is strong and resilient to all kinds of weather. The powder-coating keeps your mailbox looking new for decades.
  • Trends change. So having a timeless, modern design is important for the key components of your home's curb appeal. I can always make smaller changes to reflect shorter-term decor trends by changing out potted plants and porch decor.

2. Weatherproof

  • Quality Construction: No water is getting into this mailbox.
  • Quality materials: This mailbox can handle rain, sleet, and snow–just like your postal worker 😉

I live in central Oregon and we have seasons here. Snow storms, hail, ice, rain, and hot sun. I need a mailbox that will keep my mail dry and that is made of materials that will withstand the wear and tear.

Why this is important:

  • Keep your mail safe.No one wants wet, soggy mail

3. Locking

  • An internal locking door: Allows your postal worker to insert mail, but only you to remove mail.

Even living in a quiet neighborhood and safe town, mail theft is on the rise. I have had my identity stolen in the past and it takes a ton of time and effort to deal with. This is a simple feature to protect myself and my family.

Why this is important:

  • Prevent mail theft: Protect your identity and finances from mail theft.
  • Privacy: I want to protect my kids by making sure no one walking by can find out their names easily. My little ones often receive mail from grandparents, and a stranger easily finding out their name along with where they live isn't in anyone's best interest.

4. Sleek Design

  • Modern: Clean lines make this a great modern mailbox to update your home's look.
  • Timeless: The timeless look also matches well with transitional style decor that mixes traditional and modern elements–my personal favorite.
  • Magnetic Numbers: I love these magnetic numbers. Changing the color or font of my numbers would be an easy way to totally change the look in the future, if I ever want to. Picking the number color really customizes the look for your home and your style.

The last thing I wanted was an overly trendy mailbox that would look dated in a decade, like an overly 'farmhouse modern' decor.

Why this is important

  • The last mailbox I'll buy. It needs to stand the test of time and trends that come and go.
  • Easy to update. Magnetic numbers that come in a variety of fonts and colors make it a super simple thing to update in the future if I want to go more muted (black numbers on brown) or chic (gold numbers on brown).

5. Easiest Curb Appeal Upgrade

  • Easy to install: Includes a simple guide and materials list.
  • Big First Impression: Relatively low cost for a home upgrade, and it makes a big impact.

I love planning home updates. I will find the inspiration, sketch out my vision, and write up the materials lists and find the plans. However, when it comes to actually doing it, I quickly feel 'over it' and end up asking my husband to finish the job. Pinterest always makes it look so simple and the reality usually takes 3x longer.

This is an update that I am proud to say I did all on my own for our home. The installation guide was very straight forward, and it was an easy process I completed while my kids biked on our street.

Benefits:

  • You can DIY this: This is something you can do even if you aren't super handy (like me). I did this in an afternoon while my kids rode bikes out front and surprised my husband when he was off work.
  • Your neighbors will notice: I've had FOUR neighbors comment on my new mailbox in one week. Our neighbors are all friendly and often walk the neighborhood, so they really noticed the change. My grass may not be as green as my neighbor Glen's, but my mailbox is the best on the street.

Pros:

  • Quality construction: Made of the highest quality 14-gauge powder-coated steel and contains all the features I needed (i.e. locking, large size for amazon packages). Built to last and withstand all kinds of weather.
  • Easy to Install: I am not handy and I installed this myself. What an easy, low-cost home update!
  • Big First Impression: Such a big impact for a small project. Next time you have friends over, or your neighbors walk by, they will notice. And when you sell your house, buyers will too.

Cons:

  • Needed HOA approval: This varies by neighborhood, but for our house, I needed to get HOA approval before this project. It was pretty easy to send them the info in our HOA portal, and they responded in 48 hrs with the go ahead. This isn't really Post and Porch's fault, but it did make the project a little more annoying.
  • Goes into backorder on their website: I was lucky they were in stock when I ordered, but I did see they go on backorder somewhat regularly since they are growing in popularity.

Conclusion

BUY! This mailbox is the last mailbox I plan to ever buy. It’s aesthetically pleasing and practical. I live in a neighborhood where lots of neighbors go for walks, and we host friends often in the summer. I have had so many compliments on the new mailbox and it was so easy and relatively low cost to install.
