What’s the best bag for babywearing moms?

love babywearing. It was one of my favorite seasons of motherhood.
But the second I added a backpack?

I felt like I was gearing up to summit Everest… when I was just trying to walk around the farmers market.

Why babywearing + most bags feels so awkward

It’s not about strength.
It’s not about doing it “better.”

It’s about how everything sits on your body.

When you layer a bag on top of a carrier:

  • Straps stack on your shoulders
Carrier straps + backpack straps = pressure and bulk
  • Straps slide and rub
You’re constantly adjusting instead of just moving
  • Ring slings? Even harder
Everything ends up competing for the same space on one side of your body

You’re not just carrying your baby—you’re managing gear that wasn’t designed to work together.

What actually works (and what I did instead)

The best bag for babywearing moms is one that works with your carrier.

Here’s how I actually wear The Poppy Bag:

  • Bag on first, crossbody so no straps are slipping off my shoulders
  • Bag resting on the opposite hip of where I'll carry my baby
  • Baby carrier layered on top.

No shoulder stacking. No constant adjusting. It just… stayed where I put it.

And the best part is that when I needed to take my bag off, I didn't have to take the baby off to do so.

I didn’t have to wake a sleeping baby or undo everything.

The strap clips onto the bag—so I could unclip one side from the bag and slide the strap right out from under the carrier.

Simple. Thoughtful. Done.

Babywearing mom essentials (without overpacking)

You don’t need a massive diaper bag.

Just the things you’ll actually use:

  • Diaper + wipes
  • Phone, keys, wallet
  • Snack or bottle
  • A couple just-in-case items

Because when your bag is right, everything feels lighter.

Why it feels different

A bag made by moms, for moms… is just different.

It’s all the little things you wouldn’t think to ask for until you've been there.
A little detail that say's "I've got you" from one mom to another.

The way it sits on your body.
The way it comes off without disrupting your baby.
The way it just works and looks good without you having to think about it.

It’s having your back before you even realize you needed it.
